sara cope

Sara Cope is an emerging artist from Byawatha in Northeastern Victoria. She enjoys the process of artmaking, developing and improving techniques as well as experimenting with a variety of mediums including printmaking, ceramics, paper, textiles and ink.

The natural environment on her farm and surrounds has always been a constant source of inspiration. Growing up in a rural setting has encouraged Sara to create colourful, vibrant, bold, simple and positive artworks that further reflect her love for the environment.

Sara enjoys using layers throughout her works to highlight many dimensions of the environment and different experiences. In her artworks, layers are demonstrated through the layering of materials and colours as well as both abstract and figurative shapes in the landscape.

Sara has been shortlisted the past two years for her Artwork in ‘Top Arts’ at the National Gallery of Victoria.

Following the impact of bushfires and the completion of Yr. 12, funding through the Creative Recovery Small Grants Program, will allow Sara, a young emerging local artist, to continue to work on a creative art practice as a Resident Artist at Art Gallery on Ovens through our Young Artist Mentorship Program for 2021.

The program will be facilitated by Janet Leith, Director of the Gallery. Sara will be guided and supported in the development of her art practice, in aspects of
presenting and exhibiting work in a gallery and through working with others, strengthening her
connection and engagement through the arts in our community.

We look forward to a great year with Sara in our team of artists at the Gallery.
