Jana Brook

Jana has enjoyed various creative pursuits throughout her life; sewing, gardening, cooking (working as a cook) as well as visual art. Except for school and some casual tuition, she is basically self-taught. Although most of her work has been in journals she has on occasion shown in local group and joint exhibitions.

After experimenting with various mediums over the years Jana now works primarily in watercolour. Her art reflects the landscape that surrounds her and the connection to place that she feels. Drawing inspiration both from the Plein Air painters and the Urban sketching movement, she immerses herself in the world around her. Usually working in handmade journals, which act as personal diaries as well as references for her studio work.

Since moving to Benalla Jana has joined a group of likeminded artists working in and around the Winton Wetlands. She finds the constantly changing landscape throughout the seasons an endless source of inspiration.

Recently Jana has been able to focus more on her art, allowing her to explore the wonderful region she lives in. She is now available to teach beginner watercolour classes with an emphasis on technique, allowing students to find their own ‘voice’, rather than copying a certain style.
