Jo Kerr

Jo Kerr is a printmaker who is originally from Wangaratta and now lives in Melbourne. She regularly returns to North East Victoria to spend time with family and friends, and to draw upon local landscapes and scenes as the inspiration for many of her artworks.

Jo was long-intrigued by the medium of printmaking, but only engaged with the technique as an admirer, not a participant. Then after a chance recommendation in 2022 that she should look up Firestation Print Studio, a not-for-profit community organisation in Armadale, Jo enrolled in a linocut workshop. At this point her own printmaking practice began in earnest. Jo has subsequently undertaken a variety of workshops to learn new techniques, and made space alongside full time work to spend many hours in the studio exploring the possibilities of printmaking.

Working primarily in the mediums of linocut, reduction linocut and intaglio / etching, Jo seeks to capture the beauty she sees in the natural and built environment. Reduction linocut is her particular favourite - this technique requires considerable time and planning, with the printmaker utilising one piece of lino to print multiple layers, cutting away more of the lino (the reduction part) and printing with a different colour each time.

Jo held her first solo exhibition at Art Gallery on Ovens in 2025. She has also participated in group exhibitions including at Firestation Print Studio and the King Valley Art Show.
